Dinner honors citizen of year
Jocelyn Howard-Sinopoli, a Butler community leader and businesswoman, will be honored as this year's Distinguished Citizen by the Glacier Ridge District Moraine Trails Council of the Boy Scouts.
A dinner in her honor will be at 7 p.m. April 8 at the Atrium on Route 422 east of Prospect. A reception will be at 6 p.m. Reservations are required and are due Wednesday. Call the council office at 724-287-6791.
A lifelong resident of Butler, she went to Holy Sepulcher Catholic School and graduated from the South Butler School District in 1973. She graduated from Seton Hill College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
She returned to Butler and taught family and consumer science at Butler Junior High School, Butler Intermediate High School and Butler High School.
She retired from teaching after 23 years to enter the family business, C.W. Howard Insurance Agency.
Howard-Sinopoli grew up working in the business with her father, C.W. "Shag" Howard, who founded the agency in 1951.
She is president of the agency and works with a staff of 15, including her niece, Elizabeth Howard Sommers, and nephew, Jeffrey Howard. She earned her Certified Insurance Service Representative and Certified Insurance Counselor insurance designations and is a member of the Members' Agent Panel
She was a member of board of directors of Lifesteps, and she is first vice chair of the Butler County Chamber of Commerce. She also is a member of the Butler Woman's Presidents Club, the Butler County Community College Foundation Board and the Butler P.M. Rotary.
She lives in Butler with her husband, Henry D. Sinopoli.
