The
Butler Early Bird Toastmasters Club held its annual international speech and evaluation contest Feb. 14.Contestants were
Rob Cobbett and
Jane Sherry, both of Butler, and
Bill Duncan of Saxonburg. Sherry won first place with a speech titled "Honey Sweetie Baby" and will proceed to the area six contest level to be held in March.The international speech contest for the world champion of public speaking will be held in August in Connecticut.An evaluation contest was also held. Contestants were Duncan, Sherry and
Beth Ann Harvey. First place winner was Harvey of Chicora, and she will proceed to the area six contest in March.Early Bird Toastmasters meet at 7:30 a.m. the second and fourth Saturday of the month at Lifesteps in Butler. For information, visit club2255.freetoasthost.us/.———
Anne Farrell of The Village at St. Barnabas, recently was named the top volunteer for the St. Barnabas Charities Auxiliary for the third year in a row. She volunteered 130 hours during 2008.Farrell volunteered showing guests their seats at the Kean Theatre, wrapping presents for nursing home patients during the Presents for Patients campaign and counting coins for the Pennies for Patients campaign. She also helped at the Kean Idol contest, assisted with mailings and helped with flower and hoagie sales.The following volunteers also were recognized for giving the most hours of service:
