Mary “Marie” Elizabeth McGuire

Mary “Marie” Elizabeth McGuire of Butler passed away Tuesday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born May 30, 1924, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Perifano Giacomo.

A homemaker, she was formerly employed at Deshon Veterans Hospital, which is now known as VA Butler Healthcare; West Penn Power; and Saint Vincent de Paul Society.

Marie was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church. She also belonged to the Ladies Guild of Saint Michael, the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Order of Alhambra.

Marie also was a well-known poll worker who worked many elections in the City of Butler.

She and her husband, Bob, did much work for the poor and special needs communities in Butler through their involvement in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and the ARC.

Marie was known for her warm, loving and caring nature. She so greatly loved her family and friends. She was always the first to step up to quietly help someone in need. She also was a fabulous cook and her pizzelles and Dolly salad were much-requested items for weddings and parties.

She is survived by two daughters, Andrea Strobel and her husband, Wayne, of Butler and Lauren Peratt and her husband, Rodney, of Butler; one sister, Norma Sybert of Butler; one sister-in-law, Kathleen McGuire Blake, and her husband, Richard, of Dayton, Minn.; and five grandchildren, Shawn Strobel and his wife, Courtiney, of Saxonburg, Kelly Ellenberger and her husband, Mark, of Butler, and Emily, Caitlin and Michaela Peratt of Butler.

Also surviving are five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. McGuire, who died Oct. 13, 2002; one daughter, Linda Jean McGuire, who died Sept. 23, 2003; one brother; and seven sisters.

The family offers many thanks to the Rev. Harry Bielewicz and Sister Nancy Schnur for their wonderful spiritual care of Marie.

MCGUIRE — Friends of Mary “Marie” Elizabeth McGuire, who passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017, will be received from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Martin Funeral Home, 429 Center Ave., Butler.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Thursday at Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 432 Center Ave., Butler.
