Thelma G. Johnson Hawks, 93, of Ormond Beach, Fla., died Thursday at the Concordia Health and Human Care Facility in Cabot.

She was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Indianola to the late Charles O. Johnson and Blanche King Johnson.

Thelma was a mother and homemaker. She loved cooking, baking, watching birds and spending time with her family. She especially loved being “grandma” to all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She formerly worked at Buffalo Township Elementary School, where she established and managed the first cafeteria at that school.

Thelma was a member of the Riverbend Church in Ormond Beach, Fla., where she enjoyed fellowship with her friends.

Thelma was the wife of the late Raymond D. Hawks. They were married for 18 years until his death in 2000. Also preceding her in death were husbands Jess Nolder, William McCullough and Anthony Santora.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughters, Brenda Fowler and her husband, Richard, of Chicora and Cecelia Kuhn of Taylor Mill, Ky.; her stepchildren, Roy McCullough and his wife, Judy, of Tarentum, Bill McCullough of Freeport, Don McCullough and his wife, Bernice, of Charlotte, N.C., Joanne Leslie and her husband, Richard, of Waynesboro and Cathy Lees and her husband, Andy, of West Grove; 25 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Chick of Tarentum and Rosemary Giulioli of Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Rebecca Hutchman; three brothers, Audry, George and Ralph Johnson; and one stepson, Larry Nolder.

Thelma's family would like to thank the medical, nursing, caregiving and Christian support staff at Concordia for their dedication and loving care given to her over many years. Thanks also to the Good Samaritan Hospice staff at Concordia.

HAWKS — Friends of Thelma G. Johnson Hawks, who died Thursday, March 27, 2014, will be received at Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday. A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Pyle of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Chicora officiating.Interment will take place in Lakewood Memorial Gardens.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
