SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University field hockey team recently won its seventh game of the season — its most wins in a year since 1998 — and is ranked No. 8 in the country by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.

The Rock can clinch a PSAC playoff berth today with a win over Mansfield and a Mercyhurst loss to Shippensburg.

Cranberry resident honored at ThielCRANBERRY TWP — Cranberry Township resident Harry Muckle was recently honored at Thiel College’s homecoming football game against Waynesburg.Muckle was the quarterback of the 1967 Thiel team that won the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. He and six of his teammates were recognized at halftime.

SRU QB Barksdale earns PSAC honorSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior quarterback Nigel Barksdale has been named PSAC West Offensive Player of the Week.Barksdale completed 19-of-26 passes for 257 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a third score in SRU’s 28-20 win Saturday at Clarion.

Butler Jr. High falls to 5-1 on yearThe Butler Junior High football team fell to 5-1 on the season recently with a 20-15 loss to North Allegheny Carson.Antonio DeVaughn scored on a 3-yard run with Noah Ryder adding the two-point conversion for Butler. DeVaughn also scored on an 18-yard run with Louise Diaz making the PAT.The Golden Tornado lost three fumbles in the contest and led 15-0 after the first quarter.
