Mary L. Bowser Barton
Mary L. Bowser Barton, 79, of Worthington died on Friday at Sugarcreek Rest.
She was born in Skinall, Pa., on April 18, 1933, to the late Absolan Bowser and the late Mary (Smith) Bowser. Her stepmother was Beulaugh Bowser.
She was a lifelong resident of Worthington, worked at the Worthington Baptist Church School as an aid and was a homemaker. She was a very faithful church member at the Worthington Baptist Church for 46 years and taught Awana for the church youth group.
Mary was known for her fabulous holiday meals. She worked with her husband on the farm and raised her six sons and several grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Carl L. Barton Sr. of Worthington, who she married Dec. 23, 1949; her sons, Carl L. Barton Jr. (Susan) of Chicora, Barry C. Barton (Karen) of Butler, Jefferey W. Barton (Patricia) of Kittanning, Scott E. Barton (Pamela) of Worthington and Boyd C. Barton (April) of Cowansville; a granddaughter, Andrea Coleman of Fenelton, who had a special place in her heart; a granddaughter, Andrea, who is the director of nursing at Sugarcreek Rest and took care of her grandmother at the nursing home and at Mary’s home; 12 other grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; brother, James K. Bowser (Von) of Kittanning; sisters, Margaret L. McMillen of Worthington and Rosie M. Mazzotta of Worthington; and brother, Absolan L. Bowser Jr. (Susan) of Kittanning.
She was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Barton; a sister, Ruth Arlene McMillen; and three infant sisters.
BARTON — Friends of Mary L. Bowser Barton, who died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, were received Sunday at the F. Duane Snyder Funeral Home.Services were held this morning at the Worthington Baptist Church with additional visitation at the church before the service. The Rev. Joseph Simpson officiated.Interment was in Donahea Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made in Mary's honor to the Donahea United Methodist Church at 3237 State Route 3001, Sigel, PA 15860.
