Dawn M. Weibel

Weibel

Dawn M. Weibel, 87, of East Brady, died Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at the Chicora Medical Center.

Born May 4, 1935, in East Brady, she was the daughter of Joseph W. and Helen L. (Brogan) Painter.

On May 31, 1957, Dawn married John A. Weibel, and he preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 2013.

Dawn was a 1953 graduate of East Brady High School and continued her education at Slippery Rock University and Clarion State College, earning her master’s degree.

She was employed by Armstrong School District for over 30 years as a reading specialist for seventh and eighth grade. In 1992, Dawn was awarded the teacher of the year designation.

She was a member of the East Brady United Methodist Church for many years, having taught Sunday school. She also coordinated church dinners and was a trustee.

She was the leader of the East Brady Food Pantry, and a member of the East Brady Area Development Corporation, where she was instrumental in building the community playground and tennis courts. Dawn used her gardening skills as a member of the beautification committee and always prepared planters for the summer season in the community. For her lifelong dedication and concern for civics, she was awarded the East Brady Citizen of the Year award in 2004.

Dawn could often be found gardening — growing both flowers and vegetables, sewing, quilting or searching for antiques, and spending countless hours researching genealogy. She will be remembered for her generous and loving nature.

Surviving are four daughters, Kim Murphy and husband, Kerry, of Fredonia, N.Y., Kelly Ardoin and husband, Brett, of Pittsboro, N.C., Kristin Kinkela and husband, Mark, of East Brady, and her daughter by choice, Hope Ford and husband, Steve, of East Brady; and three sons, Kevin Weibel and wife, Stephanie, of St. George, Utah, Kerry Weibel and wife, Sue, of Chicora, and Michael Weibel and wife, Sheila, of Leesburg, Va.

She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Ashley (Justin) Amos, Justin Weibel, Bonnie Weibel, Kerrin (Christopher) Messina, Kelsey (Jordan) Mancini, John Murphy, Hayden Weibel, Cooper Shepard, Lydia Weibel, William Michael Weibel, Julianne Weibel, Aaron (Ashley) Kinkela and Alex (Jordan) Kinkela; and five great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by one sister, Lucy Painter of Butler; one brother, William (Jeanne) Painter of East Brady; four sisters-in-law, Kay Weibel of East Brady, Janet Wright of East Brady, Mary Weibel of Lancaster, and Pat Reimer of Lower Burrell; and many nieces and nephews.
