East Brady Riverfest set for this Saturday only
The fun, food, family time and friendship of the East Brady Riverfest will be offered only on Saturday this year.
Luanne McAnallen, owner of All Stars bar and restaurant and a Riverfest coordinator, said while the festival cannot be scheduled for its usual four days because of a lack of volunteers, a good time can be had by all who come to the event between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. at the former Subway parking lot on Water Street.
“We're just glad we can have it this year,” McAnallen said. “We want to keep it alive.”
A scavenger hunt for children ages 11 and younger will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Sign-up will be between the football field and water plant. The hunt will occur on the Armstrong Trail.
Hidden treasures found during the hunt as well as entry into a drawing for prizes, including four bicycles and two fishing poles, will be available to children who participate.
The prize drawing will be conducted at 8 p.m. at Riverfest.
All children must be accompanied by a parent to enter the scavenger hunt, which is free, McAnallen said.
Pending the condition of the Allegheny River, the Anything That Floats contest will be conducted at noon at Cogley's Park.
Participants will test the seaworthiness of their homemade crafts as they race one another downstream.
Prizes will be awarded to the winners.
Should the river's depth and speed of the current be unsafe, the Anything That Floats contest will be postponed until Labor Day, McAnallen said.
She said 12 to 15 vendors will sell food, crafts, clothing and other items at the festival.
Games for kids will be among the booths set up at Riverfest, McAnallen said.
For the second year, the popular Pittsburgh band “Steeltown” will perform starting at 7 p.m.
The seven-person band, which is known as “Pittsburgh's party band,” will rock out until the festival's fireworks display in the evening, which will wrap up the Riverfest, McAnallen said.
“It brings the community together,” McAnallen said.
She also invited residents and business owners to help out in planning next year's Riverfest.
