38 years is too long: If you know something, say something

The family of Cherrie Mahan needs closure.

Someone somewhere knows something.

But unless, they say something, there’s little hope of solving the case of the 8-year-old girl who disappeared after she was dropped off at her bus stop near her Cornplanter Road home in Winfield Township.

New leads are being accepted, according to Trooper Josh Black, state police public information officer for Troop D, said in a Wednesday interview.

But as the case ages, it is harder to solve, he continued.

Anything — no matter how insignificant it may seem — should be shared with police. It may seem small, but it might be the detail they need, it could mean a break in the case.

Cherrie was declared legally dead in 1992.

But that doesn’t minimize her family’s need for closure, their desire to know the whereabouts of their daughter. No parent should be left to wonder about this.

Cherrie’s mother recognized her daughter’s disappearance Wednesday by returning to Cornplanter Road, where she disappeared from.

She won’t have closure until the case is solved, until she has an answer.

If someone knows something about that day, if there’s anything you feel could be important, call the investigators. Let them determine the importance of any details you might know.

Tips are accepted at the Troop D Barracks at 724-284-8100, or people can submit tips anonymously through Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers at crimewatchpa.com/crimestoppers.
