Audubon society announces maple events
The Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania has two maple sugar season events upcoming.
The group will kick off its annual Maple Madness guided walk through the history of maple sugaring at 10 a.m. March 11 at Buffalo Creek Nature Park in Sarver and at 10 a.m. March 25 at Succop Nature Park in Penn Township.
Participants will learn how people have used maple through the ages at Maple Madness.
The event includes a tour of the maple sugar demonstration trail and how to collect and make maple sugar. This event will take place outdoors; dress for the weather.
Cost is $6 for members and $12 for nonmembers. Register at aswp.org/pages/maple-madness-2023.
More maple sugar-themed events will take place at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Sundays, Feb. 26 and March 5, at Buffalo Creek Nature Park in Sarver, and at 10 and 11:30 a.m. March 12 and 19 at Succop Nature Park in Penn Township at the Pancake and Maple Bonanza.
Learn how maple sap becomes sweet syrup. Then head inside to the park’s cozy classroom for a pancake breakfast — pancakes, sausage, fruit, and of course, real maple syrup.
Registration is required in advance for this event — choose your time and date on the events calendar. Cost is $12 per member and $15 per nonmember. Register at aswp.org/events.
