Walter Hinton

Walter Raymond Hinton Jr., 92, of Butler passed away at 11:30 p.m. Friday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1922, in Butler to the late Walter Eugene Hinton and Bertha Timblin Hinton.

He was a 1940 graduate of Punxsutawney High School. Mr. Hinton worked in the Hot Mill as a finishing roller at Butler Armco Steel, retiring on Sept. 30, 1984, after 42½ years of service.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Hinton was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force in the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers while serving in China-Burma-India Theater from 1942 to 1945.

He was a life-member of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora. Mr. Hinton was also a member of the Slovak Club and the Eagles Club in Naples, Fla. He was a member of the Honor Guard of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and VFW Post 249. Mr. Hinton belonged to the William H. Miller Lodge No. 769 F&AM the Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle, the Legion of Honor of the Syria Temple of Pittsburgh and the D.A.V.

He enjoyed traveling, hunting and boating.Mr. Hinton is survived by his wife, Betty Lou Bets Hinton, who he married on June 26, 1948; his son, Walter Raymond Hinton III and his wife, Connie, of Mt. Airy, Md.; his daughter, Cheryl Schnitzer and her husband, John, of Butler; his seven grandchildren, John Schnitzer, Laura Stephenson, Amy Goss, Crystal Walker and her husband, Patrick, Scott Hinton and his wife, Alyssa, Bruce Hinton and Amber Hinton; his nine great-grandchildren; his brother, Jack W. Hinton and his wife, Florence, of Butler; his sister, Evelyn Warren and her husband, Louis, of Cleveland, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon Hinton; his two brothers; and two sisters.

Hinton— The friends of Walter Raymond Hinton Jr., who passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, will be received from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at theThompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday from the funeral home with the Pastor Tim Goodman of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place in the North Side Cemetery.
