Mangus

George C. Mangus, 91, a lifelong resident of Harmony and Zelienople, died Tuesday evening at his home.

Born March 2, 1916, in Portage, Cambria County, he was the son of Walter and Rose Willebran Mangus.

He was a member of St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church in Zelienople.

Mr. Mangus served as a technical sergeant in the Army's 617th Field Artillery during World WarII and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He had been an automobile mechanic at Harper's Pontiac dealership for 27 years and retired from Simpson Motor's in 1981 after nine years.

He enjoyed vegetable gardening.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine R. Weber Mangus, whom he married Oct. 16, 1948; two daughters and their husbands, Kathleen and Sidney Bair of Butler and Cindy and Jim Haney of Harmony; a son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Dawn Mangus of Evans City; and three brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Audrey Mangus of Pittsburgh, Thomas and Annette Mangus of Oceanside, Calif., and Walter and Vernona Fath of Newport Beach, Calif. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jeffrey and Patrick Bair, Mark and Hailey Haney and Jason and Heather Mangus.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Mangus; and a sister, Dorothy Magruder.

Spring St., Zelienople. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Gregory Roman Catholic Church, Zelienople, with the Rev. Robert Miller officiating.
