Butler Woman accused of stabbing sees charges dismissed

BUTLER TWP — Charges police filed against an 18-year-old Butler woman for stabbing a township resident were dismissed at a preliminary hearing Thursday.

Keira A. Sporny was charged Jan. 11 with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment for for allegedly chasing a man and woman around a Butler Township residence with a knife. The woman was stabbed with an 8-inch blade in the right side of her torso, police said.

Sporny was also charged with misdemeanor simple assault and summary harassment in a separate case filed Dec. 31, 2022.

She appeared before District Judge Kevin O’Donnell for both cases.

Defense attorney Armand Cingolani asked O’Donnell to dismiss both cases because no witnesses were present to testify. The prosecuting assistant district attorney did not object to the motion.

“This doesn’t normally happen with cases like this,” Cingolani said.
