The Butler Township 11-and-12 year old all-star baseball squad clobbered Grove City, 10-0 in four innings over the weekend. The victory advances the team to the Section 2 championship game today against Grove City at 6 p.m. in Saegertown.

The winner will head to the state tournament, beginning next Friday in Plymouth Meeting, outside of Philadelphia.

Alex Ziegler and David Tompkins paced a second inning outburst with a grand slam and two-run homer, respectively.

Dalton Koebler struck out six batters in the win.

Also contributing on offense were Thomas Bruce with two singles, Dante Dorcy with an RBI-single, Spencer Murray, Chris Cotton and Colin McKee each had a base hit.

Max Vickerman went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run to pace Zelienople JADCO to a 4-3 win over Saxonburg Dr. Tile to clinch the Mid-County Pony baseball championship on Friday.Vickerman also pitched four innings with no earned runs.Brad Collier added three solid innings pitched in the win and scored two runs.Jon McFarland had a single and two incredible defensive plays in left field and teammate Adam Teets had two singles and two RBI.Sam Stone led Saxonburg with two singles, a double and an RBI, Zane Voltz had a base hit and run scored and Cale Lawson singled, doubled and scored a run.

Seneca Valley graduate Zach Jackson was sent by the Milwaukee Brewers to the team's Triple-A affiliate in Nashville last week.The move came just a day after Jackson improved his record to 2-2 following a five-inning performance Monday in San Francisco in which he surrendered just one earned run on four hits, though he struck out just one and walked four.

The Eagle County League baseball playoffs will begin tonight with two games.With the No. 1 and 2 seeds — Mars I and Saxonburg I, respectively — receiving byes, Cranberry will visit Natrona Heights and Mars II will travel to Seneca Valley High School to battle Zelienople. Both games will begin at 6 p.m. and are the first games of the best-of-three series.The semifinals will commence Friday night, with Mars I facing the lowest-seeded team still alive and Saxonburg I playing the strongest seed in a best-of-five format.

The Western Pennsylvania Warhawks improved to 2-2-1 after a 12-6 win against the Eastlake (Ohio) Vikings, Saturday night at NexTier Stadium in Jackson Township.Both of the Warhawks' touchdowns were scored on passes from Tom Gainer to Alex Simmons, covering 20 and 37 yards.The Warhawks will travel to central Ohio this Saturday to take on the Columbus Fire.
