DuBOIS — The ninth annual Alice R. Kozel Foundation District 9 Basketball All-Star Games will be played March 29 at Penn State-DuBois.
The girls game, featuring Karns City's Allyson Kepple and Union's Torri Smith, tips off at 4 p.m. Karns City coach Dave Kerschbaumer will be coaching in the contest.
The boys game, featuring Union's A.J. Ethriedge, will be played at 6.
TAMPA, Fla. — Billy Crystal will get to "look marvelous" in pinstripes.The actor will sign a one-day, minor league contract with the New York Yankees and play in Thursday's exhibition game against the Pittsburgh Pirates.Crystal, an avid Yankees fan, will work out with the team Wednesday and will wear uniform No. 60 for the game — to be played one day before his 60th birthday. The Yankees said Monday they have the approval of baseball commissioner Bud Selig.
SAN FRANCISCO — Tibetan immigrants protesting Chinese control of their homeland vowed to make San Francisco, the only U.S. city to host the Olympic torch relay, the focal point of American demonstrations against the Beijing Games.Demonstrators unfurled a Tibetan flag over the flight of white stone steps leading into San Francisco City Hall and held a portrait of the Dalai Lama, the Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader, above the crowd next to banners saying "Olympics in China, Torture in Tibet," and "Truth is our only weapon."The protesters also called on Mayor Gavin Newsom to reject the April 9 torch run and urged city officials to pass a resolution calling on China to improve conditions for Tibetans in their homeland.
