Love in the air at symphony

The Butler County Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Elisabeth Heath Charles, will present a Valentine's Day concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the auditorium of Butler Intermediate High School, 551 Fairground Hill Road.

In accord with the symphony's 60th anniversary "Diamond Jubilee" theme, the Saturday concert called "Romantic Gems" will celebrate famous lovers.

The Butler Musical Theatre Guild Singers and vocal soloists will present some of the world's great love songs, arranged by BCSO composer of the year Drew Fennell, plus familiar selections from Richard Rodgers' Broadway shows.

The orchestra also will play Howard Hanson's Symphony No. 2.

During this presentation, the photography of former Mars resident Phil Norton, now of Canada, will be projected during the third movement. The slides will illustrate many of Western Pennsylvania's familiar scenes.

The concert will open with Ambroise Thomas' "Mignon: Overture" and close with Camille Saint-Saens' "Samson and Dalila: Bacchanale."In advance, tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and are available at the symphony office, 259 S.
