Jack Statzer

Jack Clinton Statzer, 73, of Zelienople, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, under the care of UPMC Passavant Hospital.

He was born on Dec. 14, 1949, in Richmond, Ind., to Joseph Ray and Marguerite (Wright) Statzer.

Jack served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He retired from Bakerstown Container in Gibsonia.

Jack married his high school sweetheart, Sue Scheidemantel, in 1994. Jack and Sue enjoyed a good life on Clay Street for many decades. They watched neighbors come and go and made lifelong friends who supported each other through tough times.

Jack had four children, Melissa (Wade) Philley and Marcy Richardson of Florida, and Jack Jr. (Kirstin) Statzer and Joe (Krystal) Statzer of Beaver Falls; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Herbert; and his sister, Mary Watson.

Jack is survived by a sister, Shirley (Ray) Lucas of Ellwood City; and a brother, Jim (Kathy) Statzer of Prospect.

Sue’s son Michael Hockenberger grew up with Jack and Sue in Zelienople, and now resides in Arizona.

Jack owned several beloved dogs over the course of his life — Short Timer, Hammer Head, Floppy and Lightning. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a member of the Conway Sportsmen’s Club. Jack was a nationally recognized award-winning woodcarver and talented carpenter. He dabbled in painting and created interesting artwork. Above all else, Jack enjoyed his kids, grandchildren and kids in general.

Jack will be remembered for his lighthearted and witty humor. He was truly fun to be around and will be sadly missed by those who knew him.

STATZER — Friends of Jack Clinton Statzer, who died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2023, will be received for visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Peter J. Everett officiating.

Jack will be laid to rest with military honors at Grace Church Cemetery in Harmony.
