Judith Chase
Judith Strang Chase, 84, of State College, formerly of Slippery Rock, died unexpectedly at her home Monday, Feb. 6, 2023.
Born April 1, 1938, she was the daughter of Harold T. and Dorothy (Drew) Strang. She was adopted at a young age and raised by her aunt, Mildred E. Strang.
On Feb. 20, 1960, she married Craig C. Chase.
Judy was a former schoolteacher at Brookside Elementary, a computer science instructor at Slippery Rock University and a longtime volunteer at the Feed My Sheep food cupboard in Slippery Rock. She was an advocate for higher education, a top tier jigsaw puzzler and a lover of dogs.
Judy's spare time often revolved around sports. She was a die-hard fan of the University of Pittsburgh football and basketball teams, along with all Pittsburgh professional teams. It was not uncommon to find Judy with three or more screens watching multiple teams and sports all at once. She especially loved Pitt basketball.
Judy is survived by her son, Mark Chase (Amanda); daughter, Jennifer Gierhart (Michael); and five grandchildren, Michael Gierhart, Thomas Chase, Craig Chase, Sarah Gierhart and Katherine Chase. She also was blessed with five great-grandchildren, Cole and Ivy Gierhart, Andrew and Henry Chase, and Rosie Golden.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Craig; and son, Brett.
