David McKivigan

McKivigan

David L. “Chief” McKivigan, 85, of East Butler, passed away Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, while in the Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.

He was born July 9, 1937, in Butler, a son of the late George McKivigan and Mary Alice (Maitland) McKivigan.

He met his beloved wife, Anna Marie, at the Cubs Hall while working together in the bingo department. They were 14 years old at the time and remained high school sweethearts. They celebrated 62 years of a very blissful marriage. They worked diligently side by side through out their lives. They enjoyed dancing together and are now dancing once again.

Chief started his first automotive shop in 1957 and had various locations in the Butler area. He then opened Butler Tire in its current location in 1977. He also started the Deli Crossing in 2001, Mac’s Café in 2013, Anna Marie’s Winery in 2014 and the Butler Hot Dog Shop on Monroe Street.

Chief was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, as well as the Butler Redevelopment Authority and the National Michelin Council for many years. When he was younger he drove stock cars, was a Golden Glove boxer at the Cubs Hall and enjoyed watching and attending boxing events. He was very generous, helping people in need and donating to many organizations and charities.

Surviving are four sons, Richard (Sandy) McKivigan, Raymond (Charlotte) McKivigan, Robert McKivigan and Ryan (Amy) McKivigan, all of Butler; two daughters, Donna Kuhns and Deanna (Bill) Blust, both of Butler; grandchildren, Cara, Matthew, Andrew, Katie, Amber and Spencer, Kristen, April, Tony, Michael, Audrey, Ireland and Donovan; 14 great-grandchildren; and two beloved cats, Dora and Hemi.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie McKivigan, who passed away May 24, 2019; they were married July 27, 1957; his son, Ronald McKivigan; and his siblings, Ed, Robert, Jack, Larry, Janice and Jeanetta.

MCKIVIGAN — Friends of David L. “Chief” McKivigan, who died Friday, Feb. 10, 2023, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 East Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 North McKean St., Butler, with the Rev. Matt McClain officiating.

Interment will be at Butler County Memorial Park.

Memorial donations may be made in his honor to a donor of choice.
