Donald H. Alben, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away Monday at age 85.

Don was the only child of Larie Frankenstein Alben and Clifford Finley Alben. He was born in Zelienople on May 22, 1929.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Donna (Foster) Alben; his daughters, Lauralee Alben and Kathryn Alderdice; his grandchildren, Renee Cabrera Meza and Benjamin Alben Faris, and his great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jacob Alderdice.

His daughter, Denise Alben, preceded him in death in 1979.

Don was a self-made man. From humble beginnings, he made a handsome life. He was the first in his family to attend college and he received a B.S.B.A. in economics from Geneva College. Always a strong believer in the power and promise of education, he created the Donald H. and Donna J. Alben Endowed Scholarship at his alma mater.

Don's successful business career in finance and administration spanned executive positions at Textron Inc., Sugardale Foods, and the Luntz Corp.

He lived by his values of honesty, respect, excellence, and perseverance. Don provided, guided, and cared for his family with extraordinary dedication and devotion. He loved the art of investing, coin collecting, antique cars, and sports, especially football. For more than 50 years, Don was a Master Mason and a 59-year member of the Harmony Lodge 429 in Zelienople.

Alben — A memorial service for Donald H. Alben, who passed away Monday, May 12, 2014, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Paradise Lutheran Church, Treasure Island, Fla.A Masonic memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 9 at the Harmony Lodge 429, 330 E. Beaver St., Zelienople, and all are welcome. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3 p.m.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Don's honor to the Donald H. and Donna J. Alben Endowed Scholarship, Geneva College, 3200 College Ave., Beaver Falls, PA 15010 or to the Zelienople Area Public Library, 227 S. High Street, Zelienople PA 16063; or to the Paradise Lutheran Church, 10255 Paradise Blvd., Treasure Island FL 33706.An online memorial and a guest book are at www.brettfuneralhome.net.
