Matthew Edward Haid
Matthew Edward Haid, 79, of Chicora passed away peacefully Saturday at his home.
He was born on Feb. 24, 1935, in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Edward Andrew Haid Jr. and Catherine Cindrich Haid.
Matthew was a member of the Mater Dolorosa Church in Chicora.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as an E4-T from 1957 to 1959 in Germany where he met and married Caroline Wagner. They were married on April 10, 1959, in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. Caroline died on Feb. 3, 2009.
When he returned home, he worked at Pullman Standard for 20 years and Donegal Township for 10 years.
Matthew enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was known for his smart wit especially at “Sunday dinners.”
He is survived by his sons, Michael and Donna Haid of Chicora, Mark and Darla Haid of Chicora and Matthew and Teresa Haid of Camden, S.C.; his grandchildren, Corinne and Michael Woodward of Hilliards, Caitlyn Haid of Monroeville and Cody, Cameron and Devon Haid of Chicora; his sister, Patricia Palmer and her companion, John Hoffman, of Pittsburgh; and his brother, Edward Haid of Chicora.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Haid, who died on May 10, 2013.
