The Saxonburg Area 12-year-old Stars captured the Ambridge Baseball Tournament recently by defeating Quaker Valley, Economy, Beaver Falls and Ambridge, the latter in the championship game.Saxonburg (23-8) won 16 of its final 18 games and won three tournaments and runner-up in two more.Team members are Robert Zanella, Cullen Hinderliter, John DeWalt, Nick Transue, Sam Stone, Bubba Paulsen, Koti Walchesky, Dale Gallo, Tanner McCaw, Jacob Christensen and Kyle Christensen.Team coaches are Bob Zanella, Dale Gallo, Ken Zalus and Dennis Hinderliter.
Four players from the Mars Junior American Legion team - Chip Hasek, Jordan Ivey, Jim Kelly and Zack Zollner - helped the White squad defeat Red 10-6 in the Allegheny River League All-Star Game Saturday at Shaler's Jerry Malutevic Field.The league is comprised of 15-year-olds. This year marked Mars' first year in the league. They placed third in the division and qualified for the playoffs.
