Meridian gets by Kiski
Cody Laue drove in a pair of clutch runs as the Meridian legion team edged Kiski in the first round of the Butler County playoffs, 3-2, Tuesday night.
Zach Henderson picked up the win for No. 2 seed Meridian.
Henderson also helped himself with a RBI in the second inning.
Zach Kozlowski went 2-for-3 and scored a run and Evan Knauer also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Nick Malis picked up the save for Meridian, which will host Center Township in the second round of the playoffs at 6 p.m. Thursday at Highfield Park.
Kiski will play Valley in the consolation bracket at 6 p.m. Thursday at Valley.
Saxonburg 9, Karns City 6 — Jeremy Frazier struck out 10 and also went 3-for-4 at the plate for Saxonburg.
Ben Miller was also 3-for-4 with two RBI, Jordan Hickey 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI and Logan Hickey 2-for-5 with two RBI.
Alessandro Marotto was 2-for-4 and Matt Yough drove in two with a pair of hits for Karns City.
Saxonburg will play East Butler in the second round of the playoffs at Speed’O Field Thursday at 6 p.m.
Karns City will host Mars Thursday at 6 p.m. in the consolation bracket.
Center Township 2, Valley 0 — Ben Richards doubled home a run and Shane Minick tossed a complete-game shutout to lift Center Township.
David Dimum singled and scored a pair of runs and Tyler Kline and Adam Voelker also singled for Center Township.
Jordan Frame gave up just four hits and struck out six in the loss for Valley.
No legion tournament games are scheduled to be played today. The double-elimination event resumes Thursday.
