Red Barn Players open comedy Friday

FRANKLIN TWP, Beaver County — The Red Barn Players’ will open the 62nd season with the farce “Lend Me a Tenor” beginning Friday.

The play, written by Ken Ludwig, is being directed by Liz Kline of Cranberry Township and Nancy Batko of Gibsonia.

“Tenor” is set in September 1934. Saunders, the general manager of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company, is primed to welcome world famous Tito Morelli, known as Il Stupendo, the greatest tenor of his generation, to appear for one night only as Otello.

The star arrives late and, through a series of mishaps, is given a double dose of tranquilizers and passes out. In a frantic attempt to salvage the evening, Saunders persuades someone else to get into Morelli’s Otello costume and fool the audience into thinking he’s Il Stupendo.

The cast includes Thom Hilliard of Butler, Chrissy Zuemie of Cranberry Township, Brian Edward of Sewickley, Samantha Christou of Allison Park, Tom Smithyman of Wexford, David Cary of Conway, Susan Allardice of Bradford Woods, and Renee Cuerdon of Neshannock Township.

Performances are 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and June 9-11 and 16-18 at the Red Barn Theatre on Route 288. Tickets are $12. For reservations, call 724-773-7150.
