John D. West

West

John D. West, 82, of Butler, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, in the comfort of his home with his family by his side.

Born Feb. 24, 1940, and raised in Evans City. He was the middle son of Weldon and Gladys West.

John was preceded in death by his best friends and brothers, Tom and Ron.

John was a 1958 graduate of Evans City High School, having played varsity basketball and football. He attended Thiel College in Greenville, where he was president of Delta Sigma Phi fraternity and the Intercollegiate Council on Government, earning his B.A. in business administration in 1962.

John retired after a 30-year career in human resources at Armco in Butler.

John served in the U.S. Army Reserve.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Butler.

He was an avid photographer, expert woodworker and loved the outdoors, spending time biking or kayaking the waters of Moraine State Park, and summer days at the Outer Banks with family. Together with his wife Jan, they explored the beauty and grandeur of over 30 national parks and countless national historic monuments and state parks. His contributions to the community, and the lives of those family and friends he touched, will be dearly missed.

John will live on in the memories and stories of his beloved wife of 61 years, Janice Heberling West, whom he married June 17, 1961; his three children, Sharon West (Rob Grentz), David West (Julie), and Gregg West (Krista); and his five grandsons, Caedon, Grant, Tye, Quinn and Joshua, who were his world; his sister-in-law, Lynn West of California; and his nieces and nephew, Susan Berkel, Cynthia West, Steven West and Sara West; his sister-in-law, Sandra West of Butler; and his niece and nephew, Jason West and Amy West.

WEST — A celebration of life for John D. West, who died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 120 Sunset Dr., Butler, with Pastor Joel Benson officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME, Zelienople.
