Gladys L. Mauk, 89, of Charlotte Lane, New Castle, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening at her home.

Born Nov. 3, 1920, in Punxsutawney, Gladys was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Doverspike Himes.

She is survived by her husband, James Russell Mauk, to whom she was married for 68 years.

Mrs. Mauk was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School. She worked in a variety of positions throughout her life in Punxsutawney, Reynoldsville and Butler, retiring from the G.C. Murphy Co. in Butler after 25 years of employment.

She was well known for her cooking, baking and candy-making skills. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting and cross-stitch.

She was involved in numerous church, school and community activities throughout her lifetime.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sally Mauk of New Castle; and a daughter, Janice Janosik and her husband, Christopher, of West Chester. She also is survived by six grandchildren, Russell Mauk of Roanoke, Va., Alison Moze and her husband, Mike, of Cranberry Township, Emily Janosik of West Chester, Susan Kessler and her husband, Stuart, of Hillsborough, N.J., Marcie Reinhard of Raleigh, N.C., and Douglas Seeger of New Castle; 10 great-grandchildren, Jake, Sam and Layla Mauk, Brady Moze, Aaron and Justin Kessler, Ashley Miller, Douglas Seeger and Christopher and Morgan Reinhard. In addition, she is survived by a sister, Helen Himes of Smethport.

Mrs. Mauk was preceded in death by a son, James Richard Mauk.

The family wishes to thank all the caregivers who provided Gladys with compassionate care during the last few months, both at the Jameson Care Center and at home, especially Mary Jane, Jamie, Darlene, Stacy, Ginger, Linda, Chris, Ollie, Cheryl and Jenny. Special thanks are also extended to Gladys and Jim's neighbors in Maple Heights for their comfort, support and good food.

<B>MAUK</B> — Visitation for Gladys L. Mauk, who died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the <B>R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc.</B>, 2429 Wilmington Road, New Castle. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at Lakelawn Memorial Park in Reynoldsville.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Jameson Hospice of Lawrence County, 1211 Wilmington Ave., New Castle, PA 16105.Online condolences may be received at cunninghamfh.com.
