Barbara Ann Stewart Houston
Barbara Ann Stewart Houston, 79, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, in Pleasanton, Calif.
She was born in Monaca on Dec. 12, 1934, to Albert and Dorothy (Paulin) Stewart and lived in Aliquippa.
At the age of 5, following the death of her mother, Barbara went to live at the Zelienople Children's Home. She had fond memories of her years there and made lasting friendships.
Following her graduation from Zelienople High School, Class of 1954, she served honorably in the U.S. Air Force.
Barbara married Robert M. Houston on Feb. 10, 1961. They soon embarked on an overseas adventure lasting over 25 years that took them to the Philippines, Japan and Germany. Wherever she lived, Barbara was active in the local community; supporting schools, those in need of a caring hand and her church. She was an avid reader, self-taught artist, writer and loving mother to seven children.
She is survived by Diane Houston Manju of Bellingham, Wash., Jack Houston of Bellingham, Wash., Mark Houston of Los Angeles, Calif., Sandy Houston Lenhardt of Dublin, Calif., Julie Houston of Mesa, Ariz., and Paul Houston of Alexandria, Va., and her six grandchildren.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Bobby Houston; her parents; her sister, Alberta Cramer; her brothers, Harry Stewart and Robert (Bob) Stewart, and Robert, her husband of 27 years.
HOUSTON — A private memorial service for Barbara Ann Stewart Houston, who passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, was held by the family.
