Sara Schidemantle

Sara Margaret Myers Shidemantle, 90, of Muddy Creek Township, Portersville, passed away at 9 p.m. Sunday at the Golden Hills Nursing Home, New Castle.

She was born in Princeton, Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County, on Sept. 17, 1921, to Harry Leslie Myers and Jeanette Hogue Myers.

She married Claude Michael “Mike” Shidemantle on Nov. 17, 1939, and he preceded her in death on March 22, 2005.

She was a member of the Portersville Presbyterian Church and a member of the Keenagers of Portersville. Formerly she was active in the Hits and Misses Bowling League of Ellwood City. She also bowled at Zelienople Freeway Lanes in the Tuesday Night League. She was an avid card player and bingo player.

Surviving are three daughters, Carole Gatts of Atlantic, Pa., Sue and her husband, Jack, Weigle of Portersville and Patricia Brown of New Castle; and one son, Michael Shidemantle of Tampa, Fla. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Paul Gatts, Mike Gatts, Jackie Sue Weigle Smith and her husband, Raphael, Chad Brown, Cheryl Brown and Chet Brown and his wife, Ashlyn; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons-in-law, Tom Brown and Oliver Gatts; three brothers, Gerald Myers, Harry Myers Jr. and Gaylord Myers; and a sister, Pauline Carothers.

SHIDEMANTLE — Memorial services for Sara Margaret Myers Shidemantle, who passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, will be at the Presbyterian Church of Portersville, 1297 Perry Highway, Portersville, PA 16051, at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Dana Opp, pastor of Portersville Presbyterian Church, officiating.Interment will be at the Portersville Bible Church Cemetery.There will be no visitation at the funeral home.Memorial contributions can be made to the Portersville Presbyterian Church.Arrangements are by the Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock.
