A bird count in the South Butler area is planned for Saturday. Visit www.aswp.org/birding/ChristmasBirdCount.html.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will host a Scout Stewards program for Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts from the Junior Girl Scout and Webelo Scout ages/levels and up from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 19. Space is limited. Register for the program beginning at 9 a.m. Friday at 724-794-6011. Registration will close Jan. 10. Fee is $5 per person. A Winter Trails Day, a free introduction to winter sports, will begin at 10 a.m. Jan. 11. Registration is required at www.apps.dcnr.state.pa.us/calendar/list.asp or at 724-794-6011 no later than Friday.

Moraine State Park will be the site of the fourth annual Winterfest from noon to 5 p.m. Jan. 18 near McDanels Launch on the North Shore of Moraine State Park. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Moraine Preservation Fund, Winterfest activities will include a chili cook off, music by Amanda Noah, ice carving, carriage rides, a snow shoe workshop, dog sled demonstrations, and a family birding hike.
