Brian Kurtz
Brian Kurtz, 52, of Butler, died on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023, after a brief illness.
Born Feb.12, 1970, to Calvin J. and Virginia Kurtz, Brian grew up in Butler and attended Butler Catholic and Butler High School. He left his senior year when his assistant principal strongly encouraged him to quit before he gave the AV teacher a nervous breakdown. He loved pranking his way through his education and making his friends and classmates laugh.
He went on to get his GED and attend classes at CCAC and Penn State. In the mid 1990s he moved to Jersey City and spent the next several years working, entertaining and making some amazing wonderful friends in and around NYC. He loved those days and the people he met.
His most recent years were spent back in his hometown of Butler, where he had a variety of jobs, including being the best "Uncle-Funcle" to his nieces and nephews. When the kids were with him, he took wonderful care of them and of course always made them laugh. He loved them and loved being with them.
Brian was a most faithful Pirate and Steelers fan. He even managed to be on the sideline for a few Steelers games. It's still unclear how he convinced a camera crew from Cleveland to let him hold the camera cables in exchange for a press pass. All we know is a deal was made in the Three Rivers Stadium parking lot that morning, and Brian ended up with a great view of that game.
He had a love of music that spanned many generations and genres. He always had music playing and enjoyed sharing his favorite songs with whoever he was with.
He loved animals as much as he loved people and spent 10 years with his best dog, Lititz.
Everyone who knew him loved him. His heart was huge, and he loved to have a deep conversation. He truly made friends everywhere he went. Undoubtedly Brian will be remembered for making people laugh, from his childhood to adulthood. For sure, his greatest gift.
Brian is survived by his mother; brothers, Alan (Mary), Keith (Carol), Bruce, Greg (Anita), Dave and Matt; and his sister/Irish Twin/First Best Friend, Heidi Friel; also, his partner of many years, Dayna Nosse.
In Brian's honor, the family suggests that you take a minute to make someone laugh or smile as he always did for us.
