IN BRIEF

• The Seneca Valley baseball team, which finished third in WPIAL Class AAAA, will take on District 10 champion Cathedral Prep in a PIAA first-round playoff game at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Jerry Uht Park in Erie.

• The Seneca Valley softball team, runner-up in the WPIALClass AAAA championship, will face City League champion Brashear at 3 p.m. Monday at McGibbney Field in Brookline.

• Moniteau, the District 9 Class AA champion, will travel to face Everett, the District 5 top seed, at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Bedford High School.

Veteran St. Jude Golf Club members Nathan Smith and Sean Knapp finished first and second at the 22nd Mid-Amateur Championship Thursday at Meadville Country Club.Smith carded a 12-under-par 132 for the 36-hole event while Knapp had a 10-under 134.

Area football players will be competing in the 16th annual West Penn Football Coaches Association North-South All-Star Classic at 7:30 p.m. June 9 at Wilmington High School.Playing for the North will be Grove City receiver-linebacker Drew Bestwick, running back-linebacker Cody Redfoot, guard-linebacker Gregg Palmer, tackle Josh Woods and kicker-punter Gordon Craig.Playing for the South are Karns City tight end-linebacker Justin Switzer and guard-defensive end Josh Williams, Moniteau tight end-defensive end Cruz Eshenbaugh and tackle-defensive end Justin Castello, Union guard-defensive back Brett Switzer and tackle-defensive end Tom Rainey.Williams is a WPFCA scholarship recipient and Gremlins coach Ed Conto will receive his WPFCACo-South Coach of the Year award.
