Dorothy M. Patten

Dorothy M. Patten of Bonita Springs, Fla., and formerly of Butler, died May 2 at her home. She had been a resident of Bonita Springs since 2001 having lived in Fort Wayne, Ind., from 1993 to 2001. Dorothy was born in Sewickley, Pa., a daughter of the late Merle O. and Blanche Oesterling Kurtz.

She spent 27 years working as a secretary at Summit Elementary School in Butler, retiring in 1974. After moving to Fort Wayne, she worked part time for the Kids at Heart toy store that was owned by her son and daughter-in-law.

She was a former member at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Butler.

Dorothy was an avid reader and read several books a week. She was an excellent cook and handwrote her family recipes into books for her daughters and daughter-in-law. She enjoyed family get-togethers. She and her husband, Cliff, made frequent trips to the nursery to purchase flowering plants and shrubs. She was a hard worker. After her first husband died, she worked three jobs to support and put her three children through college.

She is survived by her loving husband of 49 years, Clifford A. Patten of Bonita Springs, Fla.; one son, Roger H. Holly, and his wife, Mimi, of Fort Myers, Fla.; two daughters, Constance Jo Johnson and her husband, Bruce, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Terri Rae Clark and her husband, E. Paul, of Denver, Colo.; five grandchildren, Christina (Kyle) Katzenmeyer of Fort Myers, Fla., Heidi Clark of Indianapolis, Ind., Eric Clark of Denver, Colo., Erika (Rob) Guess of Virginia Beach, Va., and Holly Johnson of Virginia Beach, Va.; and four great-grandchildren, Claire, Callie, Robbie and Reid.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Joseph Holly, who died in 1958.

PATTEN — A memorial service for Dorothy M.
