Man accused of indecent assault
A 52-year-old Boyers man has been charged with indecent assault, the second such case against him in two months.
Shawn D. Berkstresser was charged Jan. 11 with misdemeanor indecent assault without consent and summary harassment following the testimony of an 18-year-old woman.
According to an affidavit, the woman reported Dec. 13 that she was tickled and slapped on her buttocks by Berkstresser on multiple occasions at his residence in Cherry Township.
The woman said that Berkstresser touched her inappropriately several times throughout 2021 and 2022, when she was younger than 18 years old, according to police.
In the second case, Berkstresser was charged in November with inappropriately touching multiple juvenile females and documenting an encounter in writing.
On Nov. 21, he was charged with felony indecent assault of someone under age 13, two felony counts of corruption of minors, two felony counts of child endangerment, misdemeanor indecent assault of someone under age 16, and three misdemeanor counts of indecent assault without consent.
Police said a woman reported being sexually assaulted by Berkstresser during a 5-year period, starting when she was 15 years old. She alleged that two other females, one adult and one juvenile also had been assaulted by Berkstresser during that time frame.
Following interviews with the woman, police reported that the assaults began in 2017, with the most recent assault occurring in September 2022.
The juvenile female reported being 12 years old when the assaults began. All of the alleged victims reported Berkstresser inappropriately touching them in similar ways, according to police.
During the execution of a search warrant at Berkstresser’s home, police discovered a notebook in which Berkstresser acknowledged an incident of inappropriate contact with the three alleged victims. Berkstresser acknowledged writing in the notebook about the encounter in 2018.
Berkstresser is scheduled to appear before District Judge Lewis Stoughton on Feb. 7 in both cases against him.
