CORAOPOLIS — The families of 132 passengers and crew killed when USAir Flight 427 crashed near Pittsburgh International Airport 20 years ago gathered one last time to remember the tragedy.

The group known as the Flight 427 Air Disaster Support League met at a hotel near the airport to mark the occasion Monday.

The group had stopped raising money and members say it has run its course after pushing for a federal law passed in 1996, the Aviation Disaster Family Assistance Act. It requires government agencies, airlines and others to provide prompt information to families of crash victims.

The Boeing 737 nose-dived into a hill about 7 p.m. on Sept. 8, 1994, after a valve stuck, causing a rudder to malfunction.

The National Transportation Safety Board crash investigation took 4½ years, the longest ever for the agency.

NORRISTOWN — A Montgomery County borough has repealed an ordinance that allowed landlords to evict tenants if they called 911 three times within four months.The American Civil Liberties Union announced the repeal as part of a $495,000 settlement with a suburban Philadelphia woman who faced eviction through the ordinance.The ACLU said resident Lakisha Briggs faced eviction under the ordinance after calling the police because of an abusive ex-boyfriend. A neighbor called 911 after an attack from her ex-boyfriend because Briggs wouldn't call, fearing the implications of the ordinance.Officials had said the law was meant to stave off nuisance laws. ACLU attorney Sandra Park said the borough repealed the ordinance in August and approved the settlement last week.
