Kirk

Elsie M. Kirk, 83, formerly of Washington Street, Butler, died Monday at the Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born May 29, 1927, in Butler, a daughter of the late Clem and Vera Sarver Kirk.

She was a graduate of Butler High School.

During World War II, she worked at the shell shop in Butler, and she also had worked at the Penn Theater. She then worked as a bookkeeper for Shaeffer's Jewelry Store and Milich's Auto Wrecking. Elsie was best known as a teller at Pittsburgh National Bank, where she worked for many years until her retirement in 1987.

She was a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler, and she volunteered at the Cherry Tree Gift Shoppe at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Elsie enjoyed reading and shopping and especially loved her cats.

Surviving are her brother and his wife, Harry and Ann Kirk of Renfrew; and her sister, Mrs. William (Agnes) Sarver of Prospect. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Two sisters, Josephine Mohan and Marie Ion; one brother, Ralph Kirk; a niece; and a nephew preceded her in death. Her longtime companion, Joe Daugherty, also preceded her in death.

<B>KIRK</B> — There will be no visitation. A Mass of Christian burial for Elsie M. Kirk, who died Monday, Aug. 23, 2010, will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
