Delores Emily 'Dee Dee' Atkinson
Delores Emily “Dee Dee” Atkinson, 86, of Lyndora went to be with her heavenly father early Monday morning at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Butler.
Delores was born Jan. 1, 1929, in Youngstown, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Earl “Mac” and Eva Ruth Breth McCaskey.
Dee Dee attended St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler and later received inbound communion service from the Ladies of Charity at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Parish.
Delores believed in hard work and lived by and taught her children the motto, “If life knocks you down, get back up.”
Mrs. Atkinson worked for nearly 50 years as a waitress, first at Natili’s Restaurant on Main Street, then retired after nearly 30 years of service at the Lyndora Hotel. Dee Dee loved her family and her job as a waitress that led her to meet so many people. She was loved by her family and many friends and will be sadly missed.
Delores is survived by her three children, Ruthann Green and her husband, Michael, of Butler, Betsy Frances Fertucci and her husband, Raymond R., of Virginia Beach, Va., and Ralph Leroy Atkinson of Tennessee; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Lombella, Justin, DeeDee, Kristin and Joshua Green, Robert and Haley Fertucci, Tyler Atkinson, and Holly Atkinson McDonald; and two great-grandchildren, Isaiah and Kaden Green.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Atkinson, who died in 1986, and three siblings, Earl Jr., Herbie and Maxine McCaskey.
Atkinson — Friends of Delores Emily “Dee Dee” Atkinson, who passed away Monday, Feb. 9, 2015, will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Road, Chicora.Additional visitation will be from noon to the time of a blessing service at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Thompson, pastor of Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
