Call it a “tough brake” for one Butler motorist.

City police said they seized about 2 ounces of marijuana and more than $700 in currency from Angela N. Stietenroth's car following a traffic stop last week in Butler.

Patrol officers stopped the car about 11:15 p.m. March 17 on Etna Street at Center Avenue, according to court documents, after noticing her brakes did not work.

Police on Tuesday charged Stietenroth, 22, with felony and misdemeanor drug possession in the case.

The smell of marijuana from the defendant's vehicle caught the officers' attention following the stop, police said, and she surrendered a plastic grocery bag. Inside was a sandwich bag with suspected marijuana.

A subsequent search of the car turned up what appeared to be a marijuana blunt, and a black Coach bag full of currency, documents said.

The officers counted the money and tallied $701 in assorted denominations, including five 100-dollar bills. Police said the Coach bag also contained plastic bags with a marijuana bud and scrapings.

In all, the confiscated suspected marijuana weighed about 60 grams.

Stietenroth is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance. She also was cited for the lighting violation.
