Cress

Larry Keith Cress, 88, of Mars, formerly of Valencia, passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 12, 2023, at UPMC Passavant Hospital in McCandless Township.

Born in Mars on Oct. 11, 1934, he was the son of the late William L. and Irma Niggel Cress Sr.

Larry served in the 10th Marines and left the service in 1956 as sergeant HSBAT, and was a dedicated employee for National Fuel Gas for 28 years, retiring in October 1996 as foreman.

He had been president of the Mars Boosters from 1970 until 1980, and had also been president of the Mars Quarterback Club.

He was the anchor for his extended family and friends group, having led memorable get-togethers including their “famous” Ocean City, Md., beach trips. His favorite pastime was being with his family and friends.

Larry will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kimberly “Kim” Wilkes (Matthew) and Keith Cress (Jennifer); his four grandchildren, Shannon Wilkes, Matthew Wilkes, Larry Cress and Ella Cress.

He was affectionately known as “Unc” to many adoring nephews, nieces and family friends, who will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Mary “Betty” Cress, whom he married on May 23, 1964, and who passed away on July 22, 2021; his sister, Irma Jane Aiken; and his brother, William Cress.

CRESS — Friends of Larry Keith Cress, who died Thursday, Jan. 12, 2023, will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at MCDONALD-AEBERLI FUNERAL HOME, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.

Services will follow at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in West Union Cemetery, Pine Township.
