Jennetta S. “Jan” Toelke

Jennetta S. “Jan” Toelke, 84, of Zelienople passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, while under the care of VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born Oct. 6, 1931 in York Township, Toronto, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Roland Arthur and Harriet Elizabeth (Passant) White.

Jan loved nature and instilled in her children the beauty of nature. She loved gardening and had an eye for arranging flowers. She enjoyed antiquing and finding a real bargain.

She adored big band, folk music, jazz and Broadway musicals. In her younger years she was an elementary school choir teacher in CA.

She enjoyed sewing and crossword puzzles, and she was an avid reader. She was a volunteer for hospice at St. Peters Hospital in Albany, N.Y., for 30 years.

Jan belonged to a philanthropic educational organization called “PEO,” which helped women reach for the stars.

She leaves behind those who cherish her memory: three children, Eric (Jan McKie) Moon of Bloomfield, N.Y., Reid (Krista) Moon of Zelienople and Elizabeth (Doug Alexander) Moon of Boxford, Mass.; three grandchildren, Rebecca (Daniel) Cissel, Suzanne (Steven) Van Dyke and Jacob (Samantha) Moon; seven great-grandchildren, Natalie and William Cissel, Abigail, Isaac and Hannah Van Dyke and Levi and Ezra Moon; a sister-in-law, Shirley White of Picton, Ontario, Canada; three sisters, Florence Jarvis of Ottawa, Canada, Phyllis McCutcheon of Port Elgen, Canada, and Martha Murray of Hamilton, Canada; and her first husband, Fred D. Moon.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her second husband, Dr. Edward S. Stephenson; her third husband, Ray Toelke; a son, Todd Moon; and her brother, Richard A. “Dick” White.

TOELKE — A memorial service for Jennetta S. “Jan” Toelke, who died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E.
