Margaret M. Reuning

Margaret M. Reuning, 87, of Butler died Thursday surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Jan. 30, 1931, in Philadelphia. She was the daughter of Frederick P. Meves and Margaret Schumacher Meves.

She was married to George William Reuning Jr. for 58 years.

Marge graduated from Olney High School in January 1948. She served as the senior class president and was a member of the Senior Leaders, who were students that served as assistants to the physical education teachers.

She majored in fashion design and earned a bachelor of arts in 1952 from Moore Institute of Art, Science and Industry, presently known as Moore College of Art, in Philadelphia.

During college, she served as class president, was a member of the Glee Club, and enjoyed designing and making a variety of women's clothing and outerwear.

She was thrilled to be employed in her first job as assistant fashion coordinator at Lit Brothers Department Store on Market Street in Philadelphia. Marge planned and put on fashion shows, organized photo shoots to advertise these shows, and inventoried and gathered all the garments and accessories for the models to wear. She also designed the fashion display windows along the street, sometimes even making the clothes that were to be displayed.

Marge worked as the secretary-treasurer of Reuning-McKim Inc. for 13 years while also working as a homemaker raising three children.

Marge was an active member of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Saxonburg for 60 years. She was the first woman to ever serve as a council member, was the Sunday school superintendent, and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a former member and officer of the Saxonburg Federation of Women's Clubs.

Her grandchildren, great-granddog and traveling brought great joy to her life. With her husband, she traveled to all 50 states, as well as a variety of international destinations. She loved to tell stories about her trips, and the memories of the places she visited comforted and inspired her.

She is survived by her daughters, Suzanne (Keith) Thrower and Diane (John) Bossung; her son, George (Barbara) Reuning III; eight grandchildren, Julia Thrower, Jessica (Brian Bower) Thrower, Allison Thrower, Erica Thrower, Katherine Reuning, George Reuning IV, John Bossung III and Kyle Bossung.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Reuning Jr., in 2013.

Reuning, who died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2019, will be available for visitation at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2019, in the narthex of St. Luke's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 310 W. Main St., Saxonburg.A memorial service for Margaret will be held following the visitation at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
