SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock defeated Blackhawk, 52-49, in overtime recently to win the championship of the second annual Slippery Rock Senior High Summer Basketball League.
The 18 teams participating in the league this year were Slippery Rock, Butler, Mars, Moniteau, Karns City, A-CValley, Union, Rocky Grove, Franklin, Hickory, Farrell, Sharon, Blackhawk, Ellwood City, Center, Lakeview, Commodore Perry and Kennedy Catholic.
CHESTER, W.Va. — Butler resident Brian Minto's heavyweight fight against Ray Lunsford (19-7-2) at Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort has been moved to Aug. 24.It was originally scheduled for July 27, then moved to Aug. 17. Minto (27-2, 16 KOs) has not fought since March 17.Tickets will be available at Ticketmaster in 10 days.
ROANOKE, W.Va. — After the first round of play Monday, Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf and Country Club is tied for fourth place at the Stonewall Resort Classic.Boros fired a 70 to tie three others in the two-day tournament.Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club is tied for 17th (74), John Aubrey of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred is tied for 24th (76) and Travis Dickson of Treesdale is tied for 41st (80).Boros also tied for second in the Christopher J. Seretti Memorial Golf Classic, which will be played Aug. 20-21 at Montour Heights Country Club in Coraopolis.Dickson grabbed the 23rd and final qualifier spot for that event on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff by carding a birdie.
