MTG casts ‘Altar Boyz’

The musical “Altar Boyz,” centered on a fictitious Christian boy band from Ohio, satirizes the phenomenon of boy bands and the popularity of Christian-themed music in contemporary American culture.

The Musical Theatre Guild production will star Zach Frye, Daniel Terwilliger, Nathan Osche, Trevor Gordon and Matt Buzanoski with a special guest performance by Doug Anderson.

Producer is Justin Anderson. The directors are Randy Krampert and Jessica Sanzotti, who is also musical director. Choreographer is Sonja Gable, and stage manager is Jim Lilley.

Shows dates have been adjusted a bit to the following: 7:30 p.m. July 17, 18 and 25 and 3 p.m. July 19 and 26 at the group’s William A. Lehnerd Production Center at the rear of Memorial Park.

Big Butler Fair scheduled

FRANKLIN TWP — The Big Butler Fair isJuly 3 to 11 at the fairgrounds, Route 422. The 160th fair will have fireworks, carnival rides, concerts, demolition derbies and truck pulls along with farm animal exhibits.

Mars presents musical ‘Annie’

MARS — Mars School District Charity Musical this summer will be “Annie” at 7:30 p.m. July 10 and 11 and at 2:30 p.m. July 11 at the high school.

Harmony hosts brass band

HARMONY — The Harmony Museum will bring the Allegheny Brass Band to the town’s diamond, Main and Mercer streets, at 8 p.m. July 2 for the first of this summer’s free evening concerts.

Concertgoers should take their own chairs.

The concerts are organized by the borough’s parks board.

Other upcoming concerts on the diamond will be Eugene and The Nightcrawlers on July 16; Kardaz on July 30; and John Burgh and Friends on Aug. 13.

Freeport Theatre stages ‘Appleseed’

ALLEGHENY TWP, Westmoreland County — The Freeport Theatre Festival will begin its 2015 summer season with “Johnny Appleseed,” a new play with music written and directed by Rennick Steele.

Performances will begin at 7 p.m. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from July 10 to 26.

The theater is on the Steele Farm at 2498 White Cloud Road, two miles south of Freeport off Route 356.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for senior citizens and $10 for students.

Freeport site of concerts

FREEPORT — Concerts in the gazebo at Freeport’s Riverside Park will be July 10 and Aug. 21.

The band Blackhorse will play at 7:30 p.m. July 10 following the dedication of community dock at 6:30 p.m.

A band from Canada named My Sweet Patootie will perform at 7 p.m. Aug. 21.

Take chair or blanket. Light refreshments will be available.

Children’s theater planned

JACKSON TWP — The Pittsburgh Children’s Theater series has dates at Seneca Valley Intermediate High School for the upcoming 2015-16 season.
