SRU’s Messer joins ABCA Hall of Fame
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Slippery Rock University baseball coach Jeff Messer was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Friday night in Nashville.
Messer was inducted as part of the 79th anual ABCA Convention at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center. The ABCA was founded in 1945, its Hall of Fame in 1966.
Messer is entering his 38th season at SRU in 2023. His career record of 1,072 wins and 696 losses include 15 PSAC West titles, two PSAC Tournament championships, 13 NCAA Tournament berths and four appearances in the College World Series. He ranks 12th all-time in Division II in career victories.
Knoch grad Lang nets 27 in defeat
MEADVILLE — Knoch graduate Ryan Lang scored 27 points for Allegheny College in a 74-55 men’s basketball victory over Grove City College on Saturday. Allegheny sank 14 treys in the win.
Grove City fell to 6-8 overall, 4-5 in Presidents’ Athletic Conference play with the loss.
Knoch grad Boyer shines in defeat
PITTSBURGH — Knoch graduate Madilyn Boyer, A freshman at Penn State Behrend, scored a season-high 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in Behrend’s 79-76 overtime women’s basketball loss to La Roche on Saturday.
It was Boyer’s fourth double-double of the season as the Lions slipped to 9-4 overall, 1-1 in league play.
