FARMINGTON — Joe Boros of Treesdale Golf and Country Club fired a three-day total of 208 to place second overall at the 2007 Falling Rock Classic at Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
Boros strung together rounds of 67-70-71 to finish two strokes behind champion Robert Moss of Elyria (Ohio) Country Club, who fired a consistent 68-69-69-206. Bob Ford of Oakmont Country Club was third with a 67-74-68-209.
Travis Dickson of Treesdale tied for 19th place (223), Rob McClellan of Butler Country Club tied for 34th (228) and John Aubrey of Aubrey's Dubbs Dred was tied for 38th (230).
YORK — Jon Hewko, 16, who will be a junior at Seneca Valley High School, was a member of the Allegheny 16s volleyball team that won a gold medal at the Keystone State Games Saturday in York.Hewko of Cranberry Township was the only member of the AlleghenyRegion squad from Butler County, which plays in the Great Lakes Region, but did not have a team so Hewko could play for Allegheny.The Allegheny 16s went 1-1 in pool play, received a bye to the semifinals where they won the best-of-three series in both the semifinals and championship.
CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Township Waterpark Team 1, which is comprised of Tom Weir, Mike McCaffrey and Chelsey Downing, captured the Butler County Lifeguard Competition Saturday and the Commissioners Cup.The annual event is based upon skills and knowledge taught in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Program and participants received prizes from the American Red Cross, Water Safety Products and the Butler County Board of Commissioners.
