Two Butler County townships will receive grants to upgrade traffic signals, according to Sen. Scott Hutchinson, R-21.

“These grants will assist Connoquenessing and Cranberry townships in making important improvements to selected traffic signals in their communities,” Hutchinson said.

“These improvements not only benefit the residents of those communities, but improve safety and traffic flow for everyone who drives those roadways.”

The amount of the grants, which will be given under the state’s “Green Light-Go” program, are $612,050 to Cranberry Township and $160,000 to Connoquenessing Township.

Cranberry Township will be granted funds to upgrade three traffic signals at the intersection of Route 19 and St. Francis Way. The township also will be given $138,240 for the installation of traffic signal equipment and software along the Route 19 corridor.

Connoquenessing Township will be granted funds for traffic signal upgrades on Route 68 at the intersections of Eagle Mill and Kriess roads.

“Green Light-Go” provides $33 million to 94 municipalities in its current round of funding. These grants are for upgrading traffic signals to current technology, installing LED technology and performing operations such as developing special event plans, and retiming and monitoring traffic signals.
