Walmart employee, Pittsburgh man charged with thefts

Two Pittsburgh residents, one who was a Walmart employee, are accused of committing multiple retail thefts at the Walmart in Cranberry Township.

Cranberry Township police charged Sandra S. Casale, 66, of Pittsburgh, on Dec. 29 with four misdemeanor counts of conspiracy and four misdemeanor counts of retail theft for a string of incidents at the Walmart.

Police also charged Robert A. Seth, 62, of Pittsburgh, on Dec. 20 with five counts of misdemeanor conspiracy and eight misdemeanor counts of retail theft for allegedly conspiring with Casale.

Video surveillance depicted four incidents involving the two suspects in September through November, according to the affidavit.

Police said during each incident, Seth would select merchandise and proceed to self-checkout, where Casale was waiting.

Casale would pretend to assist him with the checkout process, sometimes not scanning items before placing them in bags.

Police said Casale would then void the order and allow Seth to exit the store with the merchandise.

The four recorded instances showed Seth and Casale taking items in amounts ranging from $200 to over $400, police said.

According to the affidavit, Casale admitted to voiding the orders for Seth, and said she’d done it an additional six times.

Preliminary hearings for Casale and Seth are scheduled for Jan. 27.
