Mark B. Maharg

Mark B. Maharg, 92, of Butler passed away Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 28, 1923, in Chicora to the late John Christy Maharg and Grace Alfretta (Clingensmith) Maharg.

Mr. Maharg was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He earned a degree in biology from Grove City College, then went on to earn an insurance degree from the SMA of Pittsburgh and also graduated from the Presbyterian Seminary of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Maharg was the owner and operator for 35 years of the Maharg Insurance Agency, which was founded by his father. After his retirement in 1987, he continued to work for years later to sell life insurance and as a financial adviser and broker.

He was the past president of the National Senate of Presbyterian Churches and the Butler Kiwanis Club and various other clubs. Mr. Maharg was a member of Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Maharg is survived by five sons, Dennis L. Maharg and his wife, Beverly, of Lititz, Mark Brian Maharg of Butler, Gary Wayne Maharg and his wife, Diane, of Lancaster, Pa., Dale Edward Maharg and his wife, Dee, of Conestoga, Pa., and Eric B. Maharg and his wife, Candace, of Butler; three daughters, Karen M. Feather of Morgantown, W.Va., Diane C. Kennedy and her husband, Jeff, of Butler and Beverly J. Himm and her husband, Jeff, of Chantilly, Va.; 19 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John Maharg and his wife, Meridith, of Odessa, Texas, Melvin Maharg and his wife, Marie, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Randall Maharg and his wife, Stella, of Butler; one sister, Twyla Meeder of Butler; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Maharg, who he married Feb. 27, 1946, and who passed away Dec. 5, 2007; one brother, Dean Maharg; and one great-granddaughter, Kiley.

MAHARG — Family and friends of Mark B. Maharge, who died Sunday, Oct. 4, 2015, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Saint Andrews United Presbyterian Church, 201 E. Jefferson St., Butler, with the Rev. Merry H. Meloy, pastor, officiating.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 Butler will conduct military honors at the church.Burial will take place in the Brownsdale Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to the Butler Public Library, 218 N.
