Former Butler girls baskletball coach Jonna Burke recorded her 200th varsity high school victory Monday night.

Now in her fourth year at Bethel Park, Burke's 63-59 win over Upper St. Clair improved her career record to 200-101 in 12 years of high school coaching, including eight years at Butler.

WORTHINGTON — The Buffalo Valley Sportsmen's Association elected the following members to be officers for 2007:William Hodak, president; Chuck Hodak, vice president; Mark J. PITTSBURGH — Journeyman Einar Diaz signed a minor league contract Wednesday with the Pittsburgh Pirates, who need a backup to starting catcher Ronny Paulino.Diaz, who turns 34 next week, has played in 673 career games with the Indians, Rangers, Expos, Cardinals and Dodgers, hitting a career-high .281 with 119 games with Cleveland in 1999.Diaz played in only three games for the Dodgers last season and has only 242 at-bats over the last three seasons. He has a career average of .254 with 21 homers in 2,061 at-bats.He will make $600,000 if he is added to the Pirates' major league roster.

NEW YORK — Jim Grobe was chosen as The Associated Press college football coach of the year.Grobe, in his sixth season at Wake Forest, took the Demon Deacons (11-2) from worst to first in the Atlantic Coast Conference without their starting quarterback and top tailback. Wake Forest set a school record for victories and won the ACC for the first time in 36 years.Rutgers coach Greg Schiano, who took the once-laughable Scarlet Knights within a victory of the Bowl Championship Series, finished second with 12 votes.

MOSCOW, Idaho — Robb Akey, the defensive coordinator at Washington State, is the new football coach at Idaho.Akey replaces Erickson, who left earlier this month to accept the coaching job at Arizona State after 10 months in Moscow.The 40-year-old Akey was an assistant at Washington State since 1998. It's his first head coaching job.
