Programs fun for whole family
Here are a few of the scheduled activities this summer at Moraine State Park and the Jennings Environmental Education Center.
Moraine State Park
• May 22 through May 25 — The 19th annual Outdoor Extravaganza, sponsored by the Butler Outdoor Club.
Breakneck Campground, 1757 Cheeseman Road, Portersville, will serve as base camp for the events that start at 9 a.m. each day.
Guided activities include biking, sailing, rafting, canoeing, nature walks and a historical cemetery hike.
Guitarist Jim Sorenson will lead a singalong around the campfire in the evening as well as other planned entertainment.

• June 20 — Family fishing festival hosted by the state Fish and Boat Commission.
Participants will learn fishing basics and will have a chance to fish with no license required.

• June 28 at 3 p.m. — A Ladies Intro to Fly Fishing hosted by the state Fish and Boat Commission at the Pleasant Valley Day Use Area.
Women can learn the basics of fly fishing equipment, knot tying, casting techniques and on-water skills.

• DiscoverE Summer Programs
June 16, 23 and 30, 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1:30 to 3 p.m. — “Hide-N-Seekers” for ages 4 to 5
June 18, 25 and July 2, 10 a.m. to noon or 1 to 3 p.m. — “Outdoor Explorers” for ages 6 to 8
July 22, 29 and Aug. 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. — “Penn’s Adventures” for ages 9 to 12

• June 20 at 5:30 p.m. — The Bartramian Audubon Society annual picnic.
Starting at 4 p.m., members will be walking the trails near the Prairie Trails area of the park. Bring a dish to share.
