Gary Shannon
Gary Lee Shannon, 78, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022.
He was born in Butler on Aug. 25, 1944, and was the son of the late Thomas and Leona (Scott) Shannon.
Gary went to Butler High School and graduated with the Class of 1962.
After Gary served his country honorably in the U.S. Army, he started working for Armco Steel in 1964, and also worked part time at his dad’s store, Shannon’s Jewelers located on Main Street in Butler. Gary worked at Armco for 36 years in the slab mill, slab grinders, and transportation department, running remote control locomotives until he retired in 2000.
Gary was an avid astronomer and video astrophotographer, having the Mount Chestnut Observatory in his backyard. He loved playing electric guitar with friends. He also loved spending time outside, fishing on his boat and camping.
Gary was the beloved husband of Donna (Walker) Shannon, since their marriage in 1994; and the father of William, Cheri, Joanne, and the late Toni.
He was the grandfather of Alex, Andrew, Gaige, Tyler and Morgan.
Gary will be forever loved and missed by his companion pup, Dominic.
SHANNON — Family and friends of Gary Lee Shannon, who died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2022, will be received from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at SPENCER D. GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, 140 New Castle Road, Butler.
